For schools · STEM incursion
Build a network.In a day.
A full-day incursion in your classroom. Students build a working radio node, power it from the sun and send messages across the school with no internet and no phone towers.
Real tech, real stakes.
Students learn how the networks they rely on every day actually work, and what happens when they fail. They leave having built one themselves.
Four sessions
- How radio worksDemos, a live map of the Coast mesh, and a range challenge.
- Build a nodeTeams assemble and set up their own radio node.
- Power it from the sunConnect a solar panel, measure what it delivers, and size the battery.
- Mesh challengeSpread the nodes across the school and get a message from one end to the other.
What to expect
Full-day incursion
One class group, in your classroom and grounds. Suits Years 7–10 Technology, Science and iSTEM. We bring all the equipment.
A room and the grounds
Power points, a projector, and permission to walk nodes around the school for the final challenge.
Straight answers
Is it safe?
Everything is low voltage and low power. The radios transmit less power than a mobile phone.
Do students need devices?
No. We bring everything they need. Phones are optional for the messaging part.
Do students keep the nodes?
The equipment comes back with us. Ask us about a classroom set if you'd like to keep running it.
Can it be shorter?
Yes. We can run a half-day version that covers radio and the mesh challenge.
Ask about dates.
Tell us your school, year group and the term you have in mind. We'll send a quote and the available dates.
